Over the past few years, ductless AC systems are becoming more popular since people have realized the unique benefits. However, most people fail to realize that the systems won’t last forever, and you’ll need to repair them. Here are some signs that your ductless unit needs a repair.

1. High Electric Bills

The lifespan of your ductless AC unit is between 12 and 15 years. However, as the unit ages, it loses efficiency. Once it’s new, the ductless unit has a manageable energy consumption rate.

Over time, you may notice an increase in your energy bills. The high bills could be a result of clogged filters, grungy equipment or failing parts. You should contact a professional if you notice an increase in your electric bills.

2. Reduced Cooling Output

You may notice that there’s a reduction in the amount of cool air from the ductless system. The lack of cool air is a sign of a refrigerant leak. When the refrigerant is fully drained, the air handler will only function as a fan.

A refrigerant leak is a gradual process. Therefore, you’ll notice a decrease in the cooling capacity of your ductless AC.

3. A Noisy Ductless AC Unit

A grinding noise from the ductless unit is often from worn-out bearings. Don’t ignore the grinding noise since it may result in the overheating of the air handler.

4. Ice on the Outdoor Cooling Coils

The evaporator coils may freeze due to reduced airflow. A reduction in airflow may be due to clogged filters, a broken fan, or a malfunctioning thermostat. Once ignored, the weight of the ice may bend the cooling coil, requiring a replacement.
